The Internet has embraced the Babadook as a gay icon since 2017, because why not? The Babadook's rise in status started when Netflix misclassified the movie under its LGBT category. The Internet being the Internet, ran with it. Others think the whole joke is dumb and some think it trivializes what the Babadook is really about—a woman's personal trauma.
