Is 'Super Troopers 2' worth watching?

It wouldn't be 4/20 without a comedy for stoners hitting theaters, right? The sequel to cult comedy "Super Troopers" is now in theaters, and of course, "Super Troopers 2" has gotten mixed reviews at best. The film holds only a 33 percent rotten rating on Rotten Tomatoes, but maybe the over-the-top comedy isn't for critics. It's quite literally for stoners and moviegoers who are looking for cheap laughs. There's nothing wrong with that. Is "Super Troopers 2" worth watching?

Why take the film seriously? Let moviegoers enjoy silly comedy. Common Sense Media's Michael Ordona writes:

Parents need to know that Super Troopers 2 is the sequel to the 2001 cult comedy about a group of bumbling Vermont State Troopers; this time around, they're getting another chance at their beloved old jobs in a border town that's transitioning from Canadian to American custody. It delivers plenty of the same kind of over-the-top humor that fans of the original will expect. There's exaggerated violence (people get shot, dead bodies are hurled at moving cars, etc.), nudity (breasts, butts, likely prosthetic penis), tons of graphic sex talk, extreme language ("f--k," "s--t," "p---y," and much more), and drug use, as well as a really sexist ongoing joke about a man taking female hormones and behaving in stereotypically negative "female" ways. The Broken Lizard comedy troupe (including Steve Lemme, Jay Chandrasekhar, and Kevin Heffernan) is joined by Brian Cox, Lynda Carter, Rob Lowe, and more. The movie seems aimed at college-age fans and above, but teens who've discovered the original may be interested, too.

But the comedy is critically panned. Not every movie has to be taken seriously, but cinema should be well made. Detroit News' Adam Graham writes:

A handful of outsiders are brought in to round out the cast, including Rob Lowe as a small-town mayor, Will Sasso as a Canadian Mountie and Lynda Carter as Vermont’s Governor. Seann William Scott and Damon Wayans Jr. show up in too-brief cameos that illustrate with a little more ambition, “Super Troopers 2” could have been something greater. But it’s more than happy to settle in for the cheap, lazy laugh.
