Fox versus Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU): it's a superhero showdown that never seems to end! But with recent blockbuster successes from both production companies — Captain America: Civil War and X-Men Apocalypse — everyone is talking about Fox vs. MCU.

Should the X-Men franchise move to the MCU or stay at Fox?

Well ... under Fox's guidance, X-Men (2000) and X2: X-Men United (2003) helped redefine how fans and critics looked at superhero movies — garnering plenty of acclaim for story arcs, characters and of course, special effects. X2 was once regarded as the best superhero movie ever!

Between 2007 and 2012,  the number of box office hits and acclaimed superhero movies grew extensively. The Incredible Hulk, Iron Man, Iron Man 2, Thor, Captain America: The First Avenger and The Avengers completed MCU's phase 1, became massive huge box office successes and dominated the demand for superhero movies.

By the early 2010s, the X-Men movie franchise was recovering from critically panned movies like X-Men: The Last Stand (2006) and X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009), which both became box office hits, regardless of the critics. X-Men: First Class (2011) breathed fresh air into the franchise, and was followed by a much better Wolverine sequel, plus the widely acclaimed X-Men: Days of Futures Past (2014).

But during the same time, the studios and fans debated turning over the X-Men (and Fantastic Four) movie rights to Marvel (and Disney), but the biggest question was whether 20th Century Fox would ever let that happen! The answer is still a solid no. Marvel retaliated by discontinuing X-Men comics and refusing to promote the franchise in any way. The situation became much more complex when two movie versions of the character Quicksilver were created. Quicksilver and sister Scarlet Witch are unique characters because they were Avengers and X-Men/Brotherhood of Evil Mutants members.

Fans have been comparing Fox's X-Men movies to the MCU — blasting the X-Men movies for continuity issues and not staying true to the characters and comics. Other fans love the direction of the X-Men movies and the characters. And let's be honest, Wolverine is one of the most popular comic book characters ever, and most love Hugh Jackman in the role.

Some wholeheartedly feel X-Men belongs with the company that created the series of comics that span over the course of 50 years. Others really love what Fox and Bryan Singer have done with the franchise. So what do you think: #FoxXmen or #MCUXmen?
