Should 'Celebrity Apprentice' be terminated now that Trump is gone? | The Tylt
Bodybuilder, actor and politician Arnold Schwarzenegger officially took over the mantle of "Celebrity Apprentice" boss from President-elect Donald Trump. Schwarzenegger is a household name. He's a "self-made" millionaire with an arsenal of iconic catchphrases. Who better to take the place of Trump? But, no matter what Arnold does, he isn't Trump, and the ratings for Schwarzenegger's "New Celebrity Apprentice" debut were abysmal. Is it time to tell Arnold he's fired? 📺
Should 'Celebrity Apprentice' be terminated now that Trump is gone?
A reality TV show is all about personality. And Arnold just isn't bringing it. That's not to say he lacks personality. He just isn't the "evil CEO" or "jerk boss" that the show needs.
With Mr. Schwarzenegger, there’s no joy, just a — you’ll pardon the word — robotic professionalism. His rebukes don’t have enough bite, his stares don’t have enough menace. His one noticeable zinger, “You guys are ducking more questions than Congress,” sounded scripted.
Arnold has a built-in fanbase. The show could use a different style and he's the guy to deliver. Maybe the show needs a little more class. Add a dash of acting and Schwarzenegger is just the guy for the job.
You can't argue with numbers.
"The debut episode averaged a 1.3 Nielsen rating among adults 18-49 and 4.9 million viewers--a drop of over 43% since the show’s last premiere in 2015. The most recent season of Apprentice, hosted by Trump, averaged a rating of 2.4 in the 18 to 49 demographic and a total of 7.6 million viewers in live-plus-seven day returns."
Give Arnold a little time. He has enough catchphrases to play with and he just needs a little time to find his groove. He'll get there. This guy knows how to please an audience and he knows that this will be part of his legacy.
