Shawn Mendes and Justin Bieber are among the hottest male pop stars in the game, and both heartthrobs happen to be from Canada. Bieber started melting teenage hearts when he rose to prominence in 2009. He's not only a chart-topping artist, but Beliebers are more in love with the bad boy than ever before. Mendes made his breakthrough in 2015, and as his ascent into superstardom continues, the Mendes Army can't get enough of his smooth rock crooning. Who's the ultimate pop heartthrob? 🎤😍

The Votes Are In!

Mendes rose to prominence with his hit single "Stitches" in 2015. "Stitches" is the third single from his chart-topping debut album "Handwritten." The soft pop-rock single is also his first single to crack the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at #4. The song also peaked at #10 on the Canadian Hot 100, and #1 on the U.K. Singles Chart. "Stitches" details being in love and addicted to someone, regardless of how they hurt you. The adult contemporary smash cemented Mendes as a pop crooner, often singing about being young and deeply in love.

Below are some notable lyrics to "Stitches," per Genius

🎶 You watch me bleed until I can't breathe, shaking. Falling onto my knees, and now that I'm without your kisses. I'll be needing stitches. Tripping over myself, aching, begging you to come help. And now that I'm without your kisses. I'll be needing stitches.🎶

Bieber became a mega pop star at age 15 in 2009. His first single "One Time" peaked within the top 20 on the Hot 100. The hit was also featured on Bieber's top five EP "My World." It wasn't until the start of the 2010s that Bieber scored his first top 10 hit with "Baby," the lead single from his official #1 debut album "My World 2.0."

Throughout the 2010s, Bieber continued to rise on the pop charts. Before slaying with his "Purpose" album, the single "Boyfriend" from his "Believe" album became his first track to sniff the top of the Hot 100. The R&B-influenced pop song was departure from Bieber's previous bubblegum hits. The heartthrob evolved into a more mature sound, crooning over hard hip-hop about how he would treat a young woman if he was her boyfriend.

Below are some notable lyrics to "Boyfriend," per Genius

🎶 If I was your boyfriend, I'd never let you go. Keep you on my arm girl, you’d never be alone. I can be a gentleman, anything you want. If I was your boyfriend, I’d never let you go, I’d never let you go.🎶

Mendes continued to rise in the pop ranks with his sophomore album "Illuminate," topping the Billboard Top 200 Albums chart in 2016. Even while killing it with his sophomore LP, "Stitches" remained one of the biggest hits in 2016. The smash is ranked as Billboard's top Adult Contemporary Song of 2016. Mendes is also the 2nd most successful adult contemporary artist of 2016, right behind Adele.

"Illuminate" featured many more hits with Mendes' pop-rock crooning—like "Treat You Better" and "Mercy." But his third single "There's Nothing Holdin' Me Back" is perhaps the biggest smash off of the album. Similar to "Stitches," the song details being deeply in love with someone, although the romance is sometimes mentally and emotionally toxic. "There's Nothing Holdin' Me Back" is regarded as one of the biggest smashes of summer of 2017, peaking at #6 on the Hot 100.

Below are some significant lyrics to "There's Nothing Holdin' Me Back," per Genius

🎶 Oh, I've been shaking. I love it when you go crazy. You take all my inhibitions. Baby, there's nothing holding me back. You take me places that tear up my reputation. Manipulate my decisions. Baby, there's nothing holding me back. There's nothing holding me back. There's nothing holding me back.🎶

#TeamMendes because no other pop-rock superstar successfully croons about being young and in love like Mendes.

In 2015, Bieber became a respected man. He was modeling underwear for Calvin Klein, and he was redeeming himself in the public eye. He made his grand return to the pop charts with Jack Ü's "Where Are Ü Now." The smash peaked at #8 on the Hot 100, but it was with "What Do You Mean?" that Bieber broke new ground.

The lead single from his fourth studio album "Purpose" topped the Hot 100, becoming his first single to do so. He followed up with another #1 hit "Sorry," apologizing to his ex Selena Gomez and the public for his past mistakes. But "Love Yourself" might very well be Bieber's biggest solo #1 smash; it's revered as the Top Hot 100 Song of 2016, according to Billboard. Bieber was also named the Top Male Artist and second overall Top Artist of 2016. Bieber crooned his apologies and the world heard him.

Below are some significant lyrics to his first #1 hit "What Do You Mean?," per Genius

🎶 What do you mean? Oh, oh. When you nod your head yes. But you wanna say no. What do you mean? Hey-ey. When you don't want me to move. But you tell me to go. What do you mean? Oh, what do you mean? Said you're running out of time, what do you mean? Oh, oh, oh, what do you mean? Better make up your mind. What do you mean?🎶
