Do people hate on Nicki Minaj just because she's popular?

Nicki Minaj is no stranger to criticism, but the 10-time Grammy nominee has found her music dragged in the headlines as of late. In a series of tweets, a freelance writer recently criticised her music by calling it immature and silly. Then on July 25, a writer at Forbes obliterated Minaj, calling her music desperate and the Queens rapper a hypocrite. But Minaj has had an unparalleled and widely successful career in hip-hop. Are the haters just hating or has the 35-year-old hip-hop star fallen off?

Social media folks have been commenting and noticing on all the hate Minaj has been receiving lately. Even music lovers who aren't a fan of the rapper don't think the criticism is all that fair.

Bryan Rolli, a contributor to Forbes, wasn't the least bit coy when expressing his disapproval for Minaj's recent work. He criticized her latest song "FEFE" and shamed the rapper for collaborating with rainbow hair Brooklyn rapper, 6ix9ine.

The only possible explanation for the existence of “FEFE” is that Minaj, now 35, made a shameless attempt to stay relevant. Based on early numbers, it seems to be working: The song sits at No. 2 on Spotify’s United States Top 50 chart and is expected to debut in the Top 10 of the Hot 100, and the video has accumulated more than 30 million views since Sunday. But it’s embarrassing and revolting to watch Minaj squander her talents alongside a one-note rapper who pled guilty to the use of a child in a sexual performance. The Minaj gallivanting alongside a life-size Skittle with face tattoos in the “FEFE” video is a far cry from the Minaj who tweeted in 2012 that “people who abuse children should be stoned to death in public.”
