Rap beefs are as old as hip-hop. Feuds produced some of the best music hip-hop has to offer. Drake and Meek Mill's rap beef recently came to an end, but their quarrel resulted in great music. But rap beefs have been known to take a wrong turn. Tupac and Biggie's rap beef turned fatal in the late 90's, and Cardi B recently tried to attack Nicki Minaj at a fashion Week event. Are rap beefs pointless?

Drake and Meek Mill were recently applauded for ending their rap beef. The two emcees reunited on stage in Boston, and shook hands and hugged—acknowledging the beef was over. Drake released a couple of diss tracks about Meek in 2015, then Meek followed up with his rebuttal in the same year. While the drama made for great entertainment, Drake admitted squashing the beef took a lot of pressure off of him. People reported

“This really gave me peace of mind tonight,” Drake wrote on Instagram alongside a photo of the pair shaking hands and smiling at each other onstage. “Healing and moving forward created one of the most electric and gratifying moments of my career.”

Biggie and Tupac engaged in one of the biggest rap beefs of all time, and it ended fatally. Biggie and Tupac produced some of their best music of their careers during this time, but it ultimately ended with their demise. According to The Guardian, despite the tragic ending, their beef contributed to hip-hop's global success.

In death, their paths diverged. Tupac, always more self-conscious in his myth-making, became the rapper as icon, scrutinised by academics and revered worldwide as a latter-day Bob Marley, with many of his troubling contradictions washed away. Biggie, always more down-to-earth, remains the MC's MC, remembered for his lyrical skills and abundant appetites, and a vital inspiration to two of hip-hop's most significant empire-builders, his friends Puffy and Jay-Z. In their different ways, their short careers and dramatic demises helped make hip-hop an all-conquering global force.
