Some people get their thrills from roller coasters; others from skateboarding. Then there are those who dabble in films of the horror variety, reveling in jump scares and the mental and emotional turmoil that follow after. If you find yourself recognizing yourself in this description, then boy, do we have two movies on Netflix for you. The first is “Tusk,” a Kevin Smith film that takes body horror to a whole new level. Then there’s “In the Tall Grass,” a Stephen King-Joe Hill collaboration that’s more twisty than a twister. Which are you watching?

What do you get when Kevin Smith creates a film revolving around a smarmy podcast host that gets slowly tortured and turned into a huge walrus by a complete psychopath? “Tusk,” is the answer to that. If you think that summary is a weird enough concept to begin with, just wait until you watch the movie.

“Tusk” may have a cast full of familiar faces such as Justin Long and Haley Joel Osment, but don’t let that lull you into a false sense of comfort. You won’t be OK after this movie. Like, for real.

Stephen King is a name associated with spine-tingling tales that have haunted generations. Then there’s his son Joe Hill, who’s keeping the tradition alive. Together, they’ve created creepy masterpieces such as “In the Tall Grass,” which was adapted into an unsettling Netflix film in 2019. It’s so unsettling, in fact, you’ll second guess stepping on to a lawn that hasn’t been mowed in a couple of weeks.

“In the Tall Grass” is the story about Becky (Laysla De Oliveira), a forlorn soul travelling with her brother (Avery Whitted) to the adoptive family of her unborn child. On the way they hear voices crying in some tall grass crying for help, entering into a hellish experience that sadly has Patrick Wilson as a still sexy but unfortunately mustachioed psychopath. Enjoy your sleepless nights!
