No one really gets the enjoyment behind horror movies unless they’re a horror fan themselves. If you like comedy you like to laugh; for romance movies, you’re a sap. But what can someone get from a film that causes a full-on bowel evacuation? For those of you that do like this type of DIY colonic, there are currently two Spanish horror films on Netflix that’ll scary you senseless—the thought-provoking “The Platform” and supposedly-based-on-a-true-story “Verónica.” Which is scariest?

“The Platform” is all about a guy who wakes up in a very depressing, cement-filled place that has different levels of platforms (it’s the title, see?). Said guy, Goreng (Iván Massagué), learns that those on the “lower” platforms such as himself are fed the food that those on the higher platforms leave them, which is barely enough. Chaos and violence and social allegories ensue.

“The Platform” is certainly not for those with weak stomachs. The lack of food inevitably leads to some cannibalism which the director doesn’t really skimp on. So watch at your own risk—and make sure you’re not eating as you do.

Some horror movies are so scary they become legends on to themselves. The set of “Poltergeist” was supposedly haunted, and “The Exorcist” cursed. The 2017 film “Verónica” was supposedly so terrifying, the majority of people couldn’t even get through the whole thing.

The film centers around the titular character, Verónica (Sandra Escacena), who attempts to make contact with her dead father via a Ouija board. That doesn’t happen, but what does happen is that she is thereon out stalked and mentally and emotionally tortured by a demon. Yes, it’s scary as all hell, all the more so by the fact that it’s supposedly based on a true story. Sleep tight!
