MTV VMAs Artist of the Year: Ariana Grande or Ed Sheeran?
On Aug. 27, the 2017 Video Music Awards is honoring the top artists who succeeded in the art of making musical visuals. But the Tylt is predicting the winner in one of the top categories—Artist of the Year.
All six nominees faced off in the first round of our online poll. The top three finalists—Ariana, Ed and Kendrick Lamar—then faced off in a Twitter poll to determine the final two. While Kendrick came close to topping Ed in votes, it's Ariana versus Ed in our final round of predicting the winner. Participants can officially vote for the awards at MTV.com.
Ariana and Ed are among some of the hottest artists out in the music game today. But who do you think will win Artist of the Year?
Nicki Minaj said it first, and we aren't arguing with it—"Ariana run pop." Ariana showed us just how dangerous she is with the music video for "Side to Side," featuring Nicki, super sexy female backup dancers, and a bunch of hot "Ken dolls." The video has been also streamed more than 1 billion times on YouTube. So it comes as no surprise that "Side to Side" is nominated for Best Choreography too.

"Shape of You" is a monster hit, and the only song that might stand in its way is "Despacito." Regardless, the music video to "Shape of You" has been viewed more than 2 billion times on YouTube. And that's not shocking considering "Shape of You" is one of the biggest hits of 2017.
The music video to "Shape of You" is also nominated for Best Pop Video. Plus, Ed's "Castle on the Hill" is nodded for Best Cinematography. After dominating the pop charts and with a few nods, this superstar is bound to win big at the 2017 VMAs.
