“Billions” is essentially a show about people who you think you should dislike but end up rooting for, like the dashing corporate head (as played by Damian Lewis) who makes some serious ethically questionable life choices, but who is somehow way more affable than the people who are “on the side of the law.” It’s sleek, it’s sexy, and it makes you kind of want to work in that atmosphere while also realizing it’d really, really stink.

And this is kind of the core as to why “Billions” is such a good show—it’s great to imagine yourself within its script while facing the reality that the people who are actually like this are not as endearing or sympathetic.

“Lucifer” springs from the mind of one Neil Gaiman, an author with a penchant for fleshing out complex characters who always have more to them than previously assumed. Kind of like the main character of “Lucifer.” Lucifer Morningstar (Tom Ellis), is a twist on the Devil that both combines what the Bible says and, well, doesn’t.

See, this Lucifer owns a night club and helps out local detectives solve crimes, which is something the Book of Genesis skipped out on entirely. Other hijinks ensue, all encased in a sexy dialogue with clever twists and turns, the main draw of the shows many fans. Not sold? Maybe just watch “Lucifer” for more shallow purposes, then. Don’t act like you don’t know what we’re talking about now (see below for further illustration).
