Greatest love ballad: 'Vision of Love' or 'Because You Loved Me'? | The Tylt
Greatest love ballad: 'Vision of Love' or 'Because You Loved Me'?
Music has always captured human emotions and experiences. But one emotion is arguably universally experienced and most commonly captured in music—love.
A love song can be at any tempo and provoke many different feelings. But the slower the tempo and the more powerful the vocals, the more we find ourselves in feeling all the feels. Enter the "love ballad."
As Valentine's Day comes and goes, we are honoring the greatest romantic ballads. Each ballad topped the Billboard Hot 100, specifically has "love" in the song's title, and was recorded by only the most iconic and popular music artists. The Tylt wants all of the hopeless romantics to choose the greatest "LOVE" ballad of all time.
Mariah must have had a vision of success when penning and recording "Vision of Love" in 1989. The smash was released as her debut single in 1990 and became the first of 18 hits to top the Hot 100.
Outside of Whitney Houston, Mariah's vocal range was uncommon in love ballads. Nevertheless, Mariah really brought her versatile five-octave vocal range to the table on her very first single, giving us one of the greatest ballads to ever celebrate love.
Celine became known for her soundtrack love ballads in the '90s, but "Because You Loved Me" is among the greatest. On the chart-topping track, Celine praises her lover for all of his support and love that he gives.
While Diane Warren won a Grammy for songwriting and was nominated for Song of the Year, Celine was nominated for powerhouse vocal performance in the Record of the Year and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance categories.
🎶 You were my strength when I was weak. You were my voice when I couldn't speak. You were my eyes when I couldn't see. You saw the best there was in me. Lifted me up when I could not reach. You gave me faith because you believed. I am everything I am. Because you loved me.🎶
