Favorite crossover Latin music icon: Marc Anthony or Luis Miguel?
While Marc Anthony released a collaborative album with Little Louie Vega in 1991, his debut LP "Otra Nota" dropped in 1993. Anthony established himself as a successful salsa artist before crossing over into mainstream U.S. music in the late '90s, alongside Ricky Martin and Enrique Iglesias. He scored mega crossover Billboard Hot 100 hits with "I Need to Know" and "You Sang to Me," from his first English-language self-titled LP in 1999. Overall, the iconic singer—known for his uptempo salsa bops and ballads—has scored eight #1 hits on the Hot Latin Songs and is regarded as the best-selling tropical salsa artist of all time, according to Guinness World Records. Luis Miguel is a living legend. The Puerto Rican–born Mexican singer has been dropping hits since 1981, at the tender age of 11. He dropped album after album throughout the '80s and '90s. While Marc Anthony, Ricky Martin and Enrique Iglesias crossed over into the mainstream American market in the late '90s, Luis Miguel continued to make hits solely in Spanish. And that's why he currently holds 16 #1 hits on the Hot Latin Songs chart and is known as El Sol de México (The Sun of Mexico).
