YouTube celebrity Logan Paul got into serious trouble when he posted a video that showed the dead body of a suicide victim in late 2017. Critics say he violated the deceased, joked about a horrible tragedy for his own gain and potentially traumatized his 15 million followers. But his defenders point out he took the video down and has issued several apologies—his intent was not to ridicule suicide. YouTube removed his vlogs from Google Preferred. Paul has since made a suicide prevention PSA and has gone on Good Morning America to apologize again. Is Logan Paul's conduct really unforgivable?

Paul went to a place called "the suicide forest" in Japan. It's infamous for being a place where you can stumble across a dead body. Critics say he and his crew's choices were seriously sickening. As James Vincent describes in The Verge:

In the vlog, Paul and his entourage are seen preparing to spend a night in the forest, showing off camping gear including “binoculars to see the ghosts” and “a football so we can have fun.” They troop into the woods, before the video cuts to footage of a body hanging from a rope under a tree, filmed at a distance. “Bro, did we just find a dead person in the suicide forest?” Paul asks.

Following the controversy, YouTube removed his vlogs from Google Preferred.

According to Ad Week:

YouTube issued this statement on Jan. 10: “In light of recent events, we have decided to remove Logan Paul’s channels from Google Preferred. Additionally, we will not feature Logan in season 4 of ‘Foursome’ and his new Originals are on hold.” (Google Preferred is a premium advertising program that aggregates “the top 5 percent of YouTube content” targeting users between 18 and 34.)

But the vlogger has apologized multiple times. Defenders say he's only 22 years old, and his intentions were not evil. He says in the video, “Suicide is not a joke. Depression and mental illnesses are not a joke."

In his apology, Paul said he had faced a “monsoon of negativity” and that his intent with the video had been to “raise awareness for suicide and suicide prevention.”

Paul went on Good Morning America to ask for a second chance.

According to Fortune:

But when Strahan asked whether he felt the criticism has been fair, Paul demurred. “That’s the thing,” he said after a brief hesitation. “I do.”
“I believe it happened for a reason,” Paul said. “I think that reason is so I could take this experience, learn from it, spread the message, the right way, about suicide prevention and suicide prevention awareness.”

The videos were taken down, but those who saw it say Paul and his cronies continue to stand around the body after they discovered it, filming one another’s reactions. W. T. F.

But many of the vlogger's fans are sticking by him. They say everyone makes mistakes, and you can't condemn someone forever for one stupid decision.
