“Legends of Tomorrow” is a spinoff from “Arrow” and features a rotating cast of B-list DC superheroes as time-traveling misfits. While it’s unlikely that a stand-alone show for Citizen Steel or White Canary would have gained much traction, as an ensemble cast, it works well. “Legends” took most of a season to find its voice and embrace its comic and absurd potential, but now it shines as a funny, ridiculous adventure, and a welcome alternative to both the sunny goodness and the gritty seriousness of other CW shows.

“Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” takes the beloved and beleaguered Agent Coulson of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and gives him his own team, in a sort of comics-meets-X-Files format (with fewer aliens). Clark Gregg (Coulson) brings the perfect balance of seriousness and relatability to hold the show together even when facing outlandish enemies and crazy situations. “Agents” has six seasons under its belt, and has garnered a substantial fanbase.
