John Kramer, a.k.a. Jigsaw, first appeared in the 2004 slasher "Saw." Kramer was a civil engineer diagnosed with terminal cancer who later decides to embrace life by teaching troubled people lessons about living by threatening their very existences. He traps them in deadly torture devices and forces them to play a game to test how far they are willing to go to survive. Losing or cheating will result in brutal death. Kramer gets the nickname Jigsaw by keeping pieces of his victim's flesh in the shape of a puzzle piece.

The original film is written by Leigh Whannell where Jigsaw briefly appears. He becomes a more prevalent antagonist in "Saw II" and subsequent films. Horror fans clearly love the torture porn and each film's twist ending. For those of you who haven't seen the films, or get queasy easily, the franchise may not be for you. You'll be throwing up chunks while watching chunks of Jigsaw's victims flying everywhere. It can be a lot to look at, but the popular series has eight installments and grossed over $976 million globally at the box office, so far.

Samara Morgan is based on the Japanese antagonist Sadako Yamamura of the original "The Ring" novels and movies, with a similar background and abilities. Samara has the "gift" of thoughtography a.k.a. psychic photography. She can basically psionically etch images into the minds of others. Pretty scary, huh? Well, in the 2002 American remake of "The Ring," Samara is the vengeful ghost of a young mass murderer who cursed a videotape.

But she has somewhat of a sympathetic story. Samara was a young girl adopted after her mother is stricken with mental illness. She unknowingly implanted psychic imagery into the minds of others, harming many. Her father locked away in a barn to prevent her from harming anyone else. But after several incidents, her mother snapped and drowned Samara in a well. Samara's vengeful ghost returned and etched brutal imagery of her life onto a cursed videotape. Anyone who watches the tape gets a phone call, bringing death a week later—unless they show someone else the tape before then and the process continues.

While landlines and videotapes are almost extinct, "The Ring" is regarded as an iconic horror remake with two sequels. "The Ring" franchise has made over $493 million globally at the box office. As for Samara, she is one of the more unique horror movie monsters—a ghost with psychic abilities who kills people who watch a tape definite makes her undeniably terrifying to this day.
