Is 'Logan' just too dark? | The Tylt
Hugh Jackman say he's playing Wolverine for the last time in "Logan." While some fans were worried when the trailers indicated a dark and depressing film, the final product is definitely a gloomy, dystopian Western. Some fans are embracing the grittier tone to the final Wolverine movie, but others say it might be too bloody and sad for what has been a PG-13 franchise. Does the dark tone make "Logan" an awesome film, or just a depressing final installment? 🎥
Is 'Logan' just too dark?
Parents might be concerned, but be warned, "Logan" isn't for kids. Many film critics argue "Logan" is dark, bloody, sad, but a compelling final chapter to Wolverine's saga. The film's grit is what makes it a badass critical darling with a 93 percent fresh rating. So, is "Logan" too dark?
Watch the trailer and decide for yourself.
"Logan" could very well be first great superhero movie of 2017. While past "Wolverine" films have mixed mediocre storytelling with amazing action, "Logan" offers a sad, but complete "final" story with bloody-fun action. Long-time fans were cautiously optimistic with what the trailers showed. But now that the highly-anticipated film is out in theaters, it's winning over fans.
The trailers had fans concerned, and filled with questions. Is the X-Men timeline shifting yet again? Will "Logan" be too gritty compared to previous installments? What ever happened to the other X-Men? Will Charles Xavier die? Will Old Man Logan die? What happens to Laura Kinney (X-23) in the end? Is the film too gory? Will it make us too emotional?
If you have seen "Logan" then you know the answers to most of these questions. But while some fans are stoked, others are scared shitless about the movie will give us.
Grunge writer Toni Matthews wrote about these concerns a while back.
"Logan" is badass because it's winning the hearts of film critics and killing the box office!
Fox executives were concerned that "Logan" would be too dark for a bulk of comic book fans. In a Q&A at the Recode Media conference, Fox film chairman Stacey Snider said:
Inside, there was real consternation about the intensity of the tone of the film … It’s more of an elegy about life and death. The paradigm for it was a Western, and my colleagues were up in arms.
It's too dark for some moviegoers—yet, they love it.
Logan's the best Wolverine film. The only negative thing one could say is it's too dark but that's like saying a Joy Division CD is too dark— Maxamillion Foizey (@MaxOnMovies) March 1, 2017
Other fans just love it.
But "Logan" is super depressing too.
