Is it too soon to say 'Wonder Woman' is better than 'The Dark Knight'?

The highly-anticipated "Wonder Woman" hits theaters on June 2! Moviegoers and critics are raving about a DC Comics movie for the first time since "The Dark Knight." But believe it or not, many fans are even calling "Wonder Woman" a better film than Christopher Nolan's award-winning superhero classic. Both films have close fresh ratings on Rotten Tomatoes. But others argue it's way too soon to compare "Wonder Woman" to an iconic blockbuster that has nearly a decade on it. What do you think? 🎥

"Wonder Woman" holds a fresh rating of 93 percent on Rotten Tomatoes (at the time of this publication). But this rating might shift and get higher.

Vox's Alex Abad-Santos writes:

Wonder Woman is currently Warner Bros.’ best-reviewed superhero movie since 2008’s The Dark Knight. And if its early critical reception holds as more reviews are published and the movie hits theaters this week, the film has the chance of surpassing The Dark Knight altogether.

But leave it to the Nerdist to remind us that best parts of "The Dark Knight" pretty much makes it a milestone for the superhero movie genre.

The Nerdist's Michael Walsh wrote two years that "The Dark Knight" is the standard for superhero blockbusters.

The movie is relentless, and I mean that in the best way, the way an action movie should be pulsating with energy, anticipation, and a feeling that everything is important. The opening scene, where a bunch of masked clowns rob a bank while heartlessly offing one another, should be taught in film schools forever. It is easily one of the best opening sequences in cinema history, and then somehow, impossibly, the entire movie lives up to it.

Moviegoers are watching "Wonder Woman" and being left in awe. So much in awe that many are daring to say "Wonder Woman" is the best DC movie, PERIOD.

But other DC fans are like, "whaaaaaattt?!" How can you compare a new film to a classic?

"Wonder Woman" has to be among the best to draw these comparisons. But "The Dark Knight" is one of the highest-grossing films of all time, one of the most acclaimed films of all time, and one of the few popcorn flicks to win major awards. There's no comparison... yet!
