Iggy Azalea is heartbroken. Are her critics too unsympathetic? | The Tylt
Iggy Azalea dumped fiancé Nick Young after she caught him on security footage in bed with another woman. Talk about soap opera levels of drama! In a series of tweets, she revealed what went down Thursday morning. All of this is news after Nick allegedly got his ex-girlfriend pregnant with their second child. WOW!
It's clear she's heartbroken, but her critics don't seem to care very much about her feelings. In fact, some are OK with poking fun at the infamous rapper.
But are these critics being too hard on her?
Let's be honest: Iggy really annoys people. Some call her music cultural appropriation, others say it's worse than that. It's cultural misappropriation! Not only has Iggy co-opted hip-hop culture with her white privilege, she's misrepresented it with her fake rap accent, clothing, hairstyles and accessories. Some feel she's turned hip-hop imagery into a caricature. Others are simply calling out, once again, how terrible she is as a rapper and musical artist.
Whether you agree with all that or not, a lot of people are saying that there is a time and place to criticize, and this is not one of them. Iggy is a human being too and she deserves space to deal with her personal situation.
Is it OK to poke a little fun at such a hated artist when they're going through a rough personal time?
What do you think: #PoorIggy or #IggyGetsNoLove?

Y'all wrong for taking shots at Iggy while she's vulnerable. Whether her music is trash or not she's human. Leave her alone.— Peaches. (@NatashaMarleyy) June 30, 2016

Iggy must stick it to Nick by refusing to ever rap again. That'll show him!— jamilah lemieux (@JamilahLemieux) June 30, 2016

Iggy is an appropriating thief who built a career on racism.
