Fans revere the "Harry Potter" series as one of the best literary series ever, if not the greatest. J.K. Rowling has been praised for writing the entire series, which has been adapted into film—grossing an estimated $7.7 billion globally. But some fans didn't like the latest book or play, "Harry Potter & The Cursed Child." Others feel like the literary series is just too overhyped, even 21 years after "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone" was released. What do you think?

Upon the 20th anniversary of the "Harry Potter" literary series, Entertainment Weekly's staff not only praised the series, but ranked the books. Many fans do this too. Now fans are celebrating 21 years of the series.

Sometimes it seems like the only thing the internet likes more than Harry Potter is ranking things. This week’s celebration of the 20th anniversary of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone (as the first book was known when it was initially published in the U.K.) therefore seems like a perfect opportunity to combine them.
But Harry Potter is such a beloved series that means so much to so many people, it would feel almost icky to present one qualitative ranking of the series and call it definitive. Everyone has their own favorites and their own reasons for loving them. So we recruited seven EW staffers, each of whom weighs in on a Harry Potter book to share why it sticks out from other books in the series and why it still resonates with them years later.

"Harry Potter" is a cultural phenomenon which got kids to read, but some argue that shouldn't mean the series is put on such a high pedestal. Oregon Live's Lizzy Acker wrote:

And by "books" I mean pretty much all of them, even the steamy, probably sexist, romance novels I used to check out from the library when I was 11. Even, but not limited to, "Harry Potter."
So while I do applaud using a magical boy wonder to get kids to read, I find it incredibly annoying when people act like "Harry Potter" is the only series that exists for children and tweens and teens and that before it was introduced, children didn't read at all.
