Which Broadway show would you rather see: 'Hamilton' or 'Harry Potter and the Cursed Child'?

"Harry Potter and the Cursed Child" premiered in London in 2016, and has since been put on a pedestal with "Hamilton." Both are revered as epic must-see stage productions. Lin-Manual Miranda says "Hamilton" was inspired by "Harry Potter," but "Hamilton" paved the way on Broadway when the mega-hit musical premiered in 2015. But theatre-goers say "The Cursed Child" has been giving "Hamilton" a run for its money, and the show is coming to Broadway. Which is your favorite?

"Hamilton" is regarded as one of the best and most acclaimed musicals of this generation. The musical received a record-breaking 16 Tony nominations, wining 11 awards.

OnStage Blog's Erin Conley writes:

The reason I think so many people have been drawn to this show is that it has a very easily accessible entry point—American history. Everyone has at least a general knowledge of who Alexander Hamilton was and the role he played in founding the United States. This immediately makes the show more approachable than say, an original musical about a bipolar mother and her family. But despite the somewhat traditional subject matter, nothing is traditional about the way Hamilton is presented as a musical. From the unique blend of musical styles ranging from rap to R&B to British pop to classical musical theater to the decision to cast all of the white Founding Fathers and other main characters with African-American, Asian-American, and Hispanic actors and actresses, creator and star Lin-Manuel Miranda took the unexpected choice at every turn.

But ever since "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child" premiered in July 2016, many have drawn comparisons to the epic historical musical "Hamilton." Critics have described the play as magical, spell-bounding and mesmerizing. And now the acclaimed play is coming to Broadway in March 2018.

Variety's Matt Trueman wrote:

It is, quite simply, spellbinding: The Show That Lived Up to Expectations — and Then Some. Three years after J. K. Rowling announced her boy wizard would hit the stage, “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” — no mere rehash, but a whole new chapter — proves a proper theatrical blockbuster. Not just at the box office, but onstage as well: a captivating story given a spectacular staging and — Rowling’s specialty — a big, big heart. Twenty years ago, Harry Potter turned a generation onto reading. “The Cursed Child” could do the same for theater.
