Is 'Happy Death Day' better than 'Groundhog Day'?

Every year fans celebrate Groundhog Day with the classic Bill Murray film of the same name. In "Groundhog Day," a wealthy man repeats the same day over and over again. The black comedy inspired an array of films "to repeat" the same cinematic formula. "Happy Death Day" is arguably the most intriguing film—it's called the new "Groundhog Day," but with horror! Some argue the film is even more interesting than "Groundhog Day." But others simply say you can't top the original. What do you think?

Below is the synopsis of "Happy Death Day," per IMDB:

A college student must relive the day of her murder over and over again, in a loop that will end only when she discovers her killer's identity.

It's inspired by "Groundhog Day," but some find "Happy Death Day" much more intriguing than the original black comedy.

Urban Daddy's Sam Eichner writes:

Happy Death Day, the Blumhouse horror movie which came out last year and is now available to stream on Amazon, is not fine. It’s better than fine. It’s fucking awesome. And frankly, it’s better at being Groundhog Day than Groundhog Day is at being Groundhog Day.
Happy Death Day is a real elevator pitch of a movie: “Think Groundhog Day, except instead of a weatherman living the same day over and over until he wins the affection of Andie MacDowell, it’s a hot sorority girl who has to live the same day over and over again until she finds the person who keeps killing her.”

Below is the synopsis of "Groundhog Day," per IMDB:

A weatherman finds himself inexplicably living the same day over and over again.

Let's not get it twisted—"Groundhog Day" created a formula that other films have followed—just look at "50 First Dates" and "Edge of Tomorrow." Can you really ever top the original?

Digital Spy's Rosie Fletcher writes:

Today is Groundhog Day, the day when groundhog Punxsutawney Phil comes out of his burrow to predict whether we'll have an early spring or another six weeks of winter or whatever. More specifically though, its the day doomed to repeat itself in Bill Murray's 1993 black comedy.
The movie was apparently inspired by Friedrich Nietzsche's book The Gay Science, and has in turn gone on to inspire a whole load of other films that are basically just Groundhog Day with a twist.
