Is 'Friends' the most overrated show of all time? | The Tylt
“Friends” is a show that ran the nineties and ruined Netflix by bleeding them dry of cash for better content. It’s certainly one of the most favored TV shows of all times, not just in the States but internationally. People go gaga for “Friends” to this day, with some sites still writing new content surrounding the beloved sitcom. However, some people argue that “Friends” is total garbage, and overrated at that. Is this true?

The only reason “Friends” has gotten away with its “endearing” label is because it’s set against a laugh track and typical sitcom hijinks. In real life, though? These people would be despicable.
Many of our favorite shows are dark under the collar. Ever see “Arrested Development”? If you have, you’ll slowly start to realize it’s one of the darkest comedies ever created. George Michael and Maeby’s relationship is basically incest for three seasons straight, and Buster is pretty much just Norman Bates living in a luxury condo. If you read it in novel form sans-soundtrack and exaggerated expressions, it’s practically Clive Barker. That doesn’t stop it from being a friendly, heartwarming 30 minutes of television. Same goes for “Friends.”
It’s just TV, for Christ’s sake! The whole point of a script is that you can get away with things that you certainly couldn’t in real life. If it was totally real all the time, would you even watch? No, you wouldn’t. It’s escapism. Quit taking it so seriously.
Plus, who hasn’t acted like a garbage person at one point in their life? Don’t be too quick to cast the first stone at Joey and his sexual antics. We’ve all been there (I guess).
