'Finding Dory' is a worthy sequel to 'Finding Nemo' — But which film is better? | The Tylt
13 years! It's been 13 years of fans waiting for the sequel to 2003's animated classic, Finding Nemo. And a worthy sequel they got in Finding Dory. Dory (voiced by Ellen DeGeneres) was the breakout character (and star) of the original film. Although a supporting player, DeGeneres was so great that she got the title role in the sequel. Now Finding Dory holds the record for having the highest grossing U.S. opening weekend of any animated film ever, with a $136 million box office.
On the other hand, the original is still the original. Although, Finding Dory is lauded by generations that have enjoyed both films, some feel — like with most sequels — the film doesn't live up to the Finding Nemo. You can't beat an original classic!
But some critics and fans both think that the Dory-centered sequel had no choice, but to be better than original film. Let's be honest here — although Nemo is a cute character, Dory is and has always been the star. Now she has her own titled movie to prove that!
