Who’s your favorite original Fueled By Ramen band: Jimmy Eat World or Fall Out Boy?

“Fueled By Ramen” sounds like something every student has done to get by. Early-2000’s emo kids, however, will get hit with a hefty dose of eye-liner nostalgia. Fueled By Ramen is a record label that signed some of the greatest emo artists of that generation. Paramore? Fueled By Ramen. Yellowcard? Fueled By Ramen. Two of their early acts, however, were emo legends Jimmy Eat World (of “The Middle” fame) and Fall Out Boy (of “Sugar We’re Going Down” fame). Which original band is your favorite?

The majority of the population has heard Jimmy Eat World’s “The Middle” at one point or another. Those who’ve seen the music video for the single would definitely keep it lodged in their brain for the rest of eternity, as it features a bunch of attractive people partying together in nothing but their underwear. It was everything early aughts teenagers imagined when they were in high school: starting out as outsiders then slowly sneaking their way in, finally gaining comfort in their own skin (and remaining somewhere in, you know, the middle).

Jimmy Eat World was actually Fueled By Ramen’s breakthrough band. They signed with the label in 1998, unleashing their self-tiled EP upon an emo crowd that had no idea they were even emo yet. Now, nearly 21 years later, people are still choosing "The Middle" as their go-to karaoke song.

Since then, the band has released iconic singles such as “The Sweetness” and “Pain,” bangers for the truly dedicated crew. Jimmy Eat World continues to keep it going, actively performing worldwide tours with no signs of stopping.

Before Fall Out Boy was rubbing elbows with the Simpsons and singing with Demi Lovato, it was a group of guys from Chicago incorporating spoken word into what the unappreciative ear may deem “whiney” tunes. Luckily, Fueled By Ramen recognized their raw talent, and helped release the band’s debut album, “Take This to Your Grave.” Then “From Under the Cork Tree” dropped, “Sugar We’re Goin Down” exploded in popularity, and the emo scene gained one of its many anthems.

Fall Out Boy helped usher in a bunch of other iconic Fueled By Ramen artists (many of whom were featured in the band’s earlier music videos). There was The Academy Is…, another Chicago-based band that impressed Pete Wentz when he happened to discover their sound; then there was Gym Class Heroes, who was also discovered by Wentz (and whose lead singer, Travie McCoy, helped Katy Perry get her start).

Most famously, though, is Fall Out Boy’s relationship with Panic! at the Disco. When Panic! was more than just Brendon Urie, they were a foursome from Vegas that figured no one would take them seriously. Then they sent a demo to Wentz (again) through his LiveJournal account (remember that?) and the rest is history. All in all, Fueled By Ramen helped Fall Out Boy and, in turn, the band gave the label a bevy of artists that defined an era.
