Clowns have a bad rep. They’re presented as terrifying beings when, really, all they want to do is make children smile. Luckily, there are clowns like Loonette (Alyson Court) that give the red nose a good name (although her own name is rather unfortunate). And just as luckily, she had her own show that barely had her leave the comfort of her gigantic couch.

Loonette and her compadres (one of whom was a talking doll which, again, kind of spooky) embarked on a bunch of zany endeavors that taught kids how to approach everyday problems. They even featured pests such as dust bunnies, which is the only time dust has ever been cute in the history of ever. Now that we think about it, this show kind of has its priorities mixed up…

Yes, lamb chops are a delectable food that makes any self-respecting carnivore’s mouth water. But wipe the drool from your mouth, because that’s not what we’re talking about here. “Lamp Chop’s Play Along” was a TV show whose star was a lamb puppet (Shari Lewis) with eyelashes most grown women would kill for. And maybe she was born with it; maybe it was yarn.

Shari Lewis and hand-controlled pals would spend whole segments full of lighthearted romps that emphasized kids participating in the lessons they were watching—there was no passive learning with this TV show, buddy. While we certainly love Lamb Chop to death, we’re also sure our parents wanted to throttle that Godforsaken puppet every time that endless song came on. And can we blame them? Nah.
