Electro-R&B song of the year: 'Starboy' or 'Pillowtalk'?
It's the end of the year! And throughout December, we're facing-off the best songs, albums, movies, TV shows, comic books, video games, sports, pro athletes and entertainers of 2016. The "Best of 2016" is chosen by a combination of popularity, impact, acclaim, rankings and/or amount sold. But ultimately, we want you to let us know who and what from 2016 won the year in each category.
The Weekend and Zayn both mastered mixing electronic dance music with smooth contemporary R&B in 2016. But which of their songs did it best?
And don't forget to cast your vote in these other end of year debates:
The Weeknd teamed up with EDM duo Daft Punk and produced the title track off of his latest effort "Starboy." Their collaboration gave the Weekend another crossover, alternative R&B hit. The song peaked at #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 and the Dance Club Songs, but topped the R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart.
Zayn scored his first #1 hit as a solo artist with his debut single in early 2016. The former boy band start proved he can stand on his own two feet after a controversial exit from One Direction in 2015. And he's already a crossover success; "Pillowtalk" is not only a dance hit, but it's a slow jam. And it's the 22nd most-popular Hot 100 hit of 2016.
