Rumors have circulated of a "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air" reboot or sequel for years. Both Will Smith and Alfonso Ribeiro have repeatedly denied those rumors. Especially without Uncle Phil, played by James Avery, who passed away in December 2013 after complications from open heart surgery. But the original cast recently reunited for a photo, and now fans are once again hoping for a revival. So, should the cast reunite for a reboot without Avery? 📺

Ribeiro posted the photo of the original cast on his Instagram on Monday, March 27. Fans are hyped for a TV or movie reunion. Although, many can't imagine a reboot without Avery (Uncle Phil). Should it happen—what do you think?

Always amazing to spend an afternoon with my Fresh Prince family. Wishing that James Avery was still with us to make this complete.

Ha! Some fans aren't falling for the news on there being no reboot in the works. With Will's pull in Hollywood and a huge nostalgic fanbase, a "Fresh Prince" reboot could easily happen.

Another recent photo surfaced of Will bungee jumping, and in the photo, he looks a lot like Uncle Phil. There are fans that even want Will to be recast as Uncle Phil in an actual reboot of the series (if a sequel isn't made).

There were rumors of Jaden Smith (Will Smith's son) starring in the reboot. Some supporters floated around the idea that Jaden would be a spoiled brat in Bel-Air sent to Philly to learn street smarts—in reverse from the original series. Critics aren't supportive of this idea though.

Will said there's no plans to revive "Fresh Prince" in an interview with E! News:

I don't think ever, like pretty close to when hell freezes over. Like we're going to leave that one alone.

E! News also wrote in August 2016:

Rumors circulated a year ago that a reboot was in the works with Smith on board as a producer. However, some reports then indicated that the Smith project was an original sitcom possibly inspired by the Fresh Prince's fish-out-of-water storyline.

Back in 2014, Ribeiro explained to E! News that since the death of Avery, a revival is very unlikely.

Since the passing of my favorite dad in the world, ever on TV, James Avery passed, the chances of a Fresh Prince coming back together will not happen. I don't think we feel as a cast that we would do even our fans justice. We all felt like he was the centerpiece or the nucleus of that show. Without him, it just doesn't work. So even if the whole cast comes to support me on the show, we're not looking for that to happen. And that's OK.
