Producers Alex Kurtzman and Chris Morgan exited Universal's Dark Universe. Their departure came after the Tom Cruise-led "The Mummy" tanked at the box office, putting the cinematic universe of classic monsters in jeopardy. Critics argue the Dark Universe was doomed from the start. Skeptics say the series should focus on horror, not action. Universal president of production Peter Cramer spoke with the Hollywood Reporter

“We’ve learned many lessons throughout the creative process on Dark Universe so far, and we are viewing these titles as filmmaker-driven vehicles, each with their own distinct vision. We are not rushing to meet a release date and will move forward with these films when we feel they are the best versions of themselves.”

Critics argue the Dark Universe was doomed from the start.

But fans still have faith that the Dark Universe can be saved.
