Barker rose to gory horror glory in the '80s with a series of short stories. Now, he's revered as one of the greatest horror writers. But let's settle this now: two of the scariest and goriest horror franchises are based on his work—and his ability to intermix fantasy with horror.

Most of King's work has terrorized us in two forms—outstanding novels then adapted into acclaimed horror movies.

Barker's imagination created "The Hellbound Heart," the heart and soul of classic horror film "Hellraiser." The film is led by iconic antagonist Pinhead, who has "such sights to show you."

The Tylt previous wrote:

Pinhead was created by horror auteur Clive Barker in 1986, originally appearing in the novella "The Hellbound Heart." The book was adapted for film and titled "Hellraiser," spawning nine sequels and several comic book spin-offs. The franchise has grossed over $50 million at the box office.
Born Captain Elliot Spencer in 1921, Spencer became Pinhead after opening a box called the Lament Configuration. The device opens a portal to another dimension inhabited by demons. Pinhead leads a sadomasochistic group of demons called Cenobites who subject their human victims to an eternity of torture.

Barker also wrote "The Forbidden," the short story that "Candyman" is based on.

The Tylt previous wrote:

Candyman was created by horror master Clive Barker in the short story "The Forbidden." The film adaptation is set amid the infamous Cabrini–Green housing projects in Chicago in the early '90s. The movie itself came out right around the time racial tensions in America had boiled over— following the brutal beating of Rodney King, a black man, by Los Angeles police officers.
The film itself tells the story of a young African American artist in the 1800s who falls in love with a white woman he was commissioned to paint. For his crimes, Candyman loses his hand and is stung to death by bees. His story becomes an urban legend, and he is worshiped by people in Chicago and New Orleans who believe in his apparition. When his name is called five times, Candyman's vengeful ghost appears and guts whoever summoned him.

But King's first novel "Carrie" was adapted into an Oscar-nominated film—starting a trend between his novels and films.

Not to mention Kathy Bates, who won an Oscar for starring in an adaption of King's "Misery." He's mastered the novel-to-film adaptation.
