Blockbuster of 2016: 'Civil War' or 'Rogue One'?
It's the end of the year! And throughout December, we're facing-off the best songs, albums, movies, TV shows, comic books, video games, sports, pro athletes and entertainers of 2016. The "Best of 2016" is chosen by a combination of popularity, impact, acclaim, rankings and/or amount sold. But ultimately, we want you to let us know who and what from 2016 won the year in each category.
Two great films. Two great fanbases. Marvel and Star Wars fans—which is the ultimate blockbuster of 2016?
Iron Man and Captain America go head-to-head in the epic "Civil War." Although it's a Cap sequel, some have called it a better "Avengers" movie than "Age of Ultron." (Hah!) "Civil War" is both a critical darling with a 90 percent Rotten Tomatoes rating, and has made $1.15 billion worldwide.
"Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" strikes a noticeably darker tone for the "Star Wars" franchise. But without spoiling anything, "Rogue One" adds so much more context to the beloved sci-fi series.
In only a few weeks, "Rogue One" has become one of the top-grossing films of 2016—and it's expected to close out 2016 atop the box office. "Rogue One" is late to the game, but the epic was arguably the most-anticipated film of the year. The blockbuster made a HUGE impact in a short span of time. And it still managed to excite critics, boasting an 84 percent fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
