While "Luke Cage" preceded "Black Lightning" and paved the way for Black superhero shows, the latter found a home alongside other CW shows and hence, outlasted the former Netflix show. What can really be said? "Black Lightning" is literally electrifying with an all-star predominantly Black cast led by Cress Williams in the title role. The series follows a high school principal and un-retired hero with electrokinetic powers fighting crime with his family and standing up for his inner-city community. The show holds it own among "Arrow," "The Flash" and "Supergirl," bringing a resurgence of popularity to the titular DC superhero character. "Black Lightning" holds a fresh rating of 94 percent on Rotten Tomatoes (at the time of publication), and this makes total sense for an action-packed crimefighting show that diversified CW's superhero lineup.

"Jessica Jones" is dark, cynical and sarcastic. While it was a slow-paced superhero show, there wasn't a dull moment with Krysten Ritter leading a fantastic cast. The series details PTSD, sexual assault, rape culture, mind control and all the drama that comes along with private investigation and more. Hence, "Jessica Jones" holds a fresh rating of 84 percent and an audience score of 78 percent on Rotten Tomatoes (at the time of publication). While season three recently premiered on Netflix, the show has come to an end—just like its counterparts "Daredevil," "Luke Cage," "The Punisher" and "Iron Fist." Nevertheless, "Jessica Jones" is already cemented in history as one of the few acclaimed superheroine shows. With "Batwoman" underway, here's to more comic book heroine-led series in the the near future.
