Billboard's Top Male Artist: Justin Bieber or The Weeknd?
On May 21, the 2017 Billboard Music Awards is honoring the best music artists who dominated the Billboard charts within the last year. And the Tylt is predicting the winners in the "Top Artist" categories in a series of BBMA brackets. The fellas nominated for Top Male Artist are some of the best artists in the music game. (Unfortunately, we had to leave off a nominee in this bracket—Future.)
It's Justin Bieber versus the Weeknd, and Drake versus Shawn Mendes in our first round.
Bieber won Top Male Artist last year and following the the run he's been on since then, Bieber could easily win it again this year. "Love Yourself" became the top Hot 100 song of 2016, and Bieber was also been named the top male artist of 2016, period! And following the release of "Purpose," the hits have been non-stop. Bieber's collaborations with some of the industry's top producers are better than ever, including "Let Me Love You," "Deja Vu," "Despacito" and "I'm the One."
Hand Bieber the award now because there's no stopping him.

The Weeknd successfully transitioned from underground alternative R&B artist to mega pop star in the last few years. "Beauty Behind the Madness" pushed him into the mainstream with top hits "The Hills," "Earned It," and "Can't Feel My Face." These hits earned him the Top Hot 100 Artist award at last year's show. The Weeknd won a total of eight BBMAs in 2016. And now he's continued his success with "Starboy," and his single "I Feel it Coming."
The Weeknd's alternative R&B-pop sound has taken him to the top, and that's where he'll likely stay. With two back-to-back successes under his belt, he might be walking home with his first Top Male Artist award come May 21.
