Billboard's Top Female Artist: Adele or Ariana Grande?
On May 21, the 2017 Billboard Music Awards is honoring the best music artists who dominated the Billboard charts within the last year. And the Tylt is predicting the winners in the "Top Artist" categories in a series of BBMA brackets. The ladies nominated for Top Female Artist are some of the best artists in the music game. (Unfortunately, we had to leave off a nominee in this bracket—Sia.)
It's Beyoncé versus Rihanna, and Adele versus Ariana Grande in our first round.
Adele already won Billboard's Top Female Artist last year. After being top female artist on the year-end chart in late 2016, Adele could easily win again this year.
But Adele wasn't just the top female artist at the 2016 BBMAs—she won the coveted award as the Top Artist, period. And it's all thanks to her top-selling album "25," featuring her mega #1 hit "Hello." But the success of her album and chart-topping singles carried over into 2017. Adele is basically unstoppable.
Watch the music video for "Send My Love (To Your New Lover)," one of Adele's newest hits since winning both Top Female Artist and Top Artist last year.
Let's put this simply—Nicki Minaj rapped "young Ariana run pop!" And Arianators would agree Black Barbie doesn't lie! So, it comes at no surprise that 2016 was Ariana's year.
Ariana definitely grew up when "Dangerous Woman" dropped last spring, and she's been slaying the charts to prove it. In 2016, Ariana garnered plenty of hits with "Dangerous Woman," "Into You," and "Side to Side" with Nicki. And her popularity runs so deep that she might be named the Top Social Artist come May 21.
