Gloria Gaynor and Janet Jackson recorded two of the most significant strength-gaining songs of all-time. Gloria might arguably be the Queen of Disco, but her signature hit "I Will Survive" holds longevity as the greatest women's survival hit. Janet's "Control" is one of her many signature smashes, but it's also one of the most important songs about women gaining independence and stepping into their own. Which self-empowerment song deserves the title as girl power anthem? 🎤💁🏿💁🏾

For the past several decades—female artists have declared their independence, dismantled double standards and empowered women with their music. Enter the "Girl Power Anthem." What better way to celebrate Women's History Month than to honor the women in music who influenced feminist movements, and ultimately pick the greatest girl power anthem of all-time.

Gloria and Janet's hits are different, yet a lot alike. Ultimately—they are about women's survival and independence, but which anthem is more deserving to win our girl power bracket?

"I Will Survive" is about being scared to be alone, but finding the strength to move on in life and survive without someone who has done you wrong.

Intro lyrics:

At first I was afraid, I was petrified,
Kept thinking I could never live without you by my side
But then I spent so many nights thinking how you did me wrong,
And I grew strong, and I learned how to get along.

Janet's breakthrough album "Control" was about her independence from her family and coming into her own as a young woman. "Control" is her signature single. So many young girls held back by others can relate to this anthem about fighting for your freedom to grow, responsibly become your own person and making your own decisions.

Spoken intro lyrics:

This is a story about controlMy controlControl of what I sayControl of what I doAnd this time I'm gonna do it my way (my way)I hope you enjoy this as much as I doAre we ready?I am'Cause it's all about control (control)And I've got lots of it)

Verse one Lyrics:

When I was 17 I did what people told me, uhh!
Did what my father said, and let my mother mold me
But that was long ago
