Best Supporting Actress: Viola Davis or Michelle Williams?
Best Supporting Actress is honestly Davis' to lose. While Octavia Spencer, Nicole Kidman and Naomie Harris gave incredible performances—Williams still presents a threat to win for her role in the favored tearjerker "Manchester by the Sea."
Davis originally won a Tony Award for her performance in "Fences" before it was adapted to screen. So, she's no stranger to winning for her role.
Since the film's adaptation, she has taken home almost every significant Oscar precursor award and some smaller ones too. There's pretty much no stopping Davis for becoming an Oscar winner this year, and why would anyone want to? While there are five amazing performances nominated in Best Supporting Actress, Davis leads in knocking it out of the ball park. She's the winner.
Davis plays Rose Maxson, the devoted and supportive wife of Troy who has stood by his side through the roughest time. But her devotion as a wife is challenged when she learns a devastating and heartbreaking secret about her husband.

Williams doesn't have many scenes in "Manchester by the Sea," but she makes the best of her screen time and even stole the show. Williams is now on her fourth Oscar nomination. She's won a few smaller awards this season, but still—if anyone could upset Davis than it's most likely Williams at this point.
Williams plays the remorseful ex-wife of Casey Affleck's character who faces tragedy in losing his brother. Watch a clip of Williams' performance, and tell us she's not brilliant.
