In “The Wire,” the audience got an in-depth and humanized view of the world of drug dealers and police in Baltimore. “The Leftovers” was a quasi-mystical look at life after two percent of the population mysteriously disappears. Both HBO shows are dramatic, emotional and intense. But which show is your favorite?

People were hooked since “The Wire” Season 1. Every season focuses on a different aspect of the drug war in Baltimore, from how it affects police and dealers to its coverage in the media and effects on education and city government. Special kudos to The Wire’s Omar (Michael K Williams) who, despite being a feared killer, is one of the most morally clear characters on the show. “The Wire” also introduced the American audience to Idris Elba.

Unlike other apocalyptic shows, the human race in “The Leftovers” remains largely intact after two percent suddenly disappear. That small percentage nevertheless leaves a massive whole in the hearts of the survivors. Strange cults and mystical theories abound. Showrunner Damon Lindelof also brought us “Lost” and, like that show, the ending left the audience with a great deal to think about.
