Which is your favorite Dave Grohl band: Nirvana or Foo Fighters?

There are gods among men, then there are gods among gods. David Grohl is the latter. You react to people who don’t like Dave Grohl in the same way you would to someone who’s just proclaimed they don’t like dogs: suspiciously, with a heavy dose of side-eye. The man is a talented musician associated with two of the greatest bands of all-times: go-to grunge outfit Nirvana and the rocking Foo Fighters. Which is your favorite?

Plaid shirts were once less associated with fall and more associated with grunge. Especially when Nirvana rolled around, and every teenager smelling teen spirit started to invest in a closet full of flannel. Although the band was primarily led by lead singer Kurt Cobain, the music world was henceforth blessed with the jovial entity that is Dave Grohl.

Those of you unfamiliar with Grohl’s earlier career may be surprised to learn he was actually Nirvana’s drummer (the sixth one, to be exact), not guitarist. Granted, it’s a pretty easy mistake to make—every shot of Grohl banging notes out is of a skinny dude whose hair covers his face and takes up the majority of his body mass, not unlike if Cousin It and Animal had a baby.

The Dave Grohl in Nirvana also had more of a disheveled demeanor than the man today. Wonder what inspired that look…

After Cobain’s tragic passing, Grohl states he wasn’t sure exactly what to do with himself. His ragged-maned head was full of songs, though, and they at last burst forth into a band that has some of the greatest hits (and greatest music videos) of all times: Foo Fighters.

Formed in 1994, the Foo Fighters have pretty much consistently dropped banging album after banging album for nearly 30 years. They’ve given us pump-up songs, slow songs, and multiple moments in which Dave Grohl and Taylor Hawkins have dressed up as women.

Throughout his career, Dave Grohl has proven time and again his proclivity at being a super chill dude. We just wish he liked us as much as he likes Billie Eilish
