Is Azealia Banks misunderstood?

Azealia Banks is in the news again, and it isn't for her music. Most recently she stayed at Tesla, Inc. co-founder, Elon Musk's home to work on music and compared her experience to the film "Get Out." But during a past "The Breakfast Club" interview, Banks said she isn't sure why people take her opinions so seriously. The Harlem rapper has a strong fanbase and recently dropped a bop called "Anna Wintour" that is gaining traction. Is she just misunderstood?

Banks hit the scene in 2012 with her single "212," and soon after she and fellow rapper Iggy Azalea started exchanging harsh words on Twitter. Banks accused Iggy of "cultural smudging," because she is a white rapper posing in a black-dominated industry.

Banks then had a tiff with T.I. in 2014. T.I. released a song called "No Mediocre." The following day Banks tweeted, "U want no mediocre but … Have you seen your wife?"

Fast forward to 2018, one of Banks' most recent controversy is with Cardi B. Banks' words to Cardi were so hurtful the pregnant rapper left social media for a few days. In reference to Cardi, Banks said:

“I’m just talking about this caricature of a black woman that black women themselves would never be able to get away with,” Banks continued. “Like, if my spelling and grammar was that bad, I’d be canceled. If Nicki Minaj spelled like that, we would be ragging on her all day.”

And now Azealia is accusing Nicki of stealing her style. Bossip reported:

Another day, another Nicki Minaj beef! Azealia Banks is clapping real hard at Nicki after she dropped a preview for her new “Bed” video. In the clips, Nicki looks wet and stranded on the beach, rocking a mermaid tail. There’s one issue, Azealia is claiming to have started the mermaid trend in rap and she says she has receipts Nicki is copying her.

But Banks has a loyal fanbase, and her video for "Anna Wintour" garnered over 1 million views in its first week. In her recent interview, she said her opinions are actually "terrible," which is why she isn't sure why people care about what she says. Nicki Minaj even recently co-signed the rapper and called her latest work "dope."
