Is 'Avengers: Infinity War' overhyped?

"Avengers: Infinity War" is the most anticipated movie of the year, hitting theaters on Friday, April 27. Early reviews are in and, overall, critics are lit. The nineteenth movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is expected to break box office records. But some critics argue the film is overstuffed with heroes. And some worry if the film can really deliver with such a huge star-studded cast. Others can't wait—the last 10 years of Marvel movies have all led up to "Infinity War." So, is the film overhyped?

Many critics and moviegoers alike admire the Marvel Cinematic Universe's ambitions with "Infinity War." And many critics argue it delivers with an 86 percent fresh rating so far on Rotten Tomatoes. Toronto Sun's Mark Daniell writes:

Imagine being on a roller-coaster for two-and-a-half hours that pauses for only the briefest of moments for you to gasp for air. Now you have a pretty good idea of what Avengers: Infinity War is like.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe’s newest entry is its biggest, most ambitious piece of storytelling in the studio’s 10 years of existence and the minute you exit the theatre, you’ll be lining up at the box office to buy another ticket.
It's that good.

But maybe "Infinity War" was too much of a good thing. San Francisco Chronicles' Mick LaSalle writes:

Over the last few years, the Avengers, together and separately, have spawned a number of good, very good, or reasonably entertaining movies. But with “Avengers: Infinity War,” the Marvel Comics franchise arrives at the stage of decadence.
There’s just too much of it. A victim of its own success, there are just too many appealing characters here to stuff into one story. It’s no longer one team of superheroes fighting a single villain, but several teams fighting the same villain throughout the known universe, over the course of 150 minutes of screen time.

Some skeptics argue "Infinity War" and the MCU is overhyped.
