Greatest shock rocker: Alice Cooper or Ozzy Osbourne?
Alice Cooper is known as a pioneer of shock rock, so he holds the honorific title of the godfather of shock rock. Cooper became the boogeyman of parents everywhere, with his theatrical on-stage persona and unfounded urban legends that Cooper tore the heads off chickens during live performances.
That was largely a myth, based somewhat on an incident in 1969, when Cooper picked up a chicken during a performance at the Toronto Rock'n'Roll Revival Festival, threw it into the audience thinking it could fly, and concertgoers tore the bird apart. The publicity was priceless, and Cooper went on to shock American audiences for decades.
Ozzy Osbourne was the lead singer of the iconic heavy metal band Black Sabbath. His on-stage antics and Black Sabbath's pioneering sound garnered him the title of the Prince of Darkness and godfather of heavy metal. Fitting titles for someone who unknowingly bit the head off of a real bat on stage!
