Below is the synopsis of "A Star Is Born," per Rotten Tomatoes

In "A Star Is Born," Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga fuse their considerable talents to depict the raw and passionate tale of Jack and Ally, two artistic souls coming together, on stage and in life. Theirs is a complex journey through the beauty and the heartbreak of a relationship struggling to survive. In this new take on the iconic love story, four-time Oscar nominee Cooper ("American Sniper," "American Hustle," "Silver Linings Playbook"), makes his directorial debut, and also stars alongside multiple award-winning, Oscar-nominated music superstar Gaga in her first leading role in a major motion picture. Cooper portrays seasoned musician Jackson Maine, who discovers and falls in love with struggling artist Ally. She has given up on her dream to become a successful singer, until she meets Jack, who immediately sees her natural talent.

"A Star Is Born" holds a fresh rating of 90 percent and an audience score of 81 percent on Rotten Tomatoes. The music drama grossed over $409 million worldwide at the box office. Critics and moviegoers alike took notice of Bradley Cooper's directing.

Cooper also scored Best Director nods at the Golden Globes, Broadcast Film Critics Association Awards and the Directors Guild of America. So many are left wondering how he could be snubbed at the 2019 Oscars.

Below is the synopsis of "Black Panther," per Rotten Tomatoes

"Black Panther" follows T'Challa who, after the events of "Captain America: Civil War," returns home to the isolated, technologically advanced African nation of Wakanda to take his place as King. However, when an old enemy reappears on the radar, T'Challa's mettle as King and Black Panther is tested when he is drawn into a conflict that puts the entire fate of Wakanda and the world at risk.

Ryan Coogler gained several Best Director nods for smaller critics awards around the U.S., but was also nominated for Best Director at the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films.

"Black Panther" made over $1.3 billion globally at the box office, and the movie holds a fresh rating of 97 percent and an audience score of 79 percent on Rotten Tomatoes. The movie was a smash hit with audiences, going on to become the highest-grossing movie in the U.S. in 2018 and the second highest-grossing movie globally. While Marvel fans are elated "Black Panther" received seven nominations, including Best Picture, they aren't happy about the Academy snubbing Coogler.
