Should you celebrate Halloween the weekend before or after the holiday?

Halloween falls on a Thursday this year. For some, this might mean a weekend of partying starting Thursday, Oct. 31, and ending Sunday (because why wouldn't you maximize spooky season?). Others say leaving Halloween parties to the weekend after is a grave mistake; Halloween should always be celebrated the weekend before the maximize excitement, anticipation and participation. When will you be celebrating?

Halloween's precarious placement on a Thursday this year is causing a panic:

#PartyAfterHalloween

Like all good things, you round up. A Thursday is part of the weekend following it—the weekend that begins a mere 24 hours after Thursday comes to a close. Therefore, Halloween should be celebrated on Thursday, Oct. 31, through Sunday, Nov. 3.

Plus, this set up offers the perfect recovery with an extra hour of sleep on daylight savings on Nov. 3. It is practically meant to be.

Vice's Kate Dries comes out strong advocating for any and all Halloween celebration to take place the weekend before the holiday:

You should never schedule a Halloween party for after Halloween, because then it is November. These are the rules.

Dries argues that unlike other holidays, Halloween takes a certain amount of energy to celebrate properly. No matter how ambitious you might be, there's no way you'll be able to save all of your excitement for the weekend following Halloween. Someone will want to celebrate before or on the holiday itself, and Halloween parties taking place the weekend after will be left with the dregs of the candy bowl and the second-choice costumes.

You will likely be forced to have or attend a "Halloween" party after Halloween, but you shouldn't, because Halloween parties should always be on Halloween or the weekend before if Halloween does not fall on a weekend. (Never any earlier than that. Even when we're dressing up as monsters, we're not actually monsters.)
