Do you rent a car or take taxis on vacation?
Time is money. Trying to hail a cab or standing around waiting for a Lyft is time wasted. Driving a rental car gives you freedom to explore and if you plan it right, it's cheaper than calling for a car, given surge pricing, airport fees and so forth. Renting a car is the way to go.
You want to spend half your vacation looking for a parking spot? Better to get someone else to pick you up. If you factor time, gas, insurance, parking and stress, renting a car is by far the costlier option. Taxis or rideshares are quick, cost effective, and efficient.
