At least we can all agree that neither of these candies is actually licorice. Regardless, these fruity treats evoke everything from love and addiction to aghast, up-turned noses. Some people prefer the chew of Twizzlers, saying these strawberry-twists are perfect for the movies and road trips. Others say Red Vines are far superior. Pulling each string off of these raspberry ropes provides endless gratification. Which candy is actually better?

The Takeout's Allison Shoemaker faced off these two candies, ranking them in four categories: longevity, versatility, legacy, and taste. It was clear from the beginning that Twizzlers would take the gold.

In addition to the cool-factor from the candy's somewhat questionable endorsement from Neil Armstrong, Twizzlers beat out Red Vines in an unofficial taste test by a 3-to-2 ratio. As one taste testers themselves put it:

The sight of the Red Vines prompted such poetical reactions as, “Red Vines is a barf,” and “Red Vines: Wish You Could Eat a Candle?”

The team at Takeout is doing the people's work–Twizzlers for everyone!

But Red Vines are not without superlatives. When it comes to using these licorice-like candies as straws, Red Vines are the clear winner. Twizzlers are hardly hollow, but Red Vines can stand the test of any soda.

The team at Delish also argues that when it comes to flavor, Red Vines are actually superior, saying "they don't taste like plastic."

Try as Twizzlers might to convince us that they're strawberry flavored, the strands of licorice always have a slightly medicinal, plastic-y flavor.

Delish also points out that Red Vines are the more versatile choice. Just imagine a world with Red-Vine-cherry pie:

Red Vines dedicates an entire section of their site to recipes involving the delicious strands. For example, did you know you could melt them down and make a cupcake filling? Or that you could bake them with cherries into a pie? Twizzlers' website on the other hand, provides these ridiculous ideas: pretend it's a magic wand, use them as drumsticks, swirl a strand in the air and pretend you're a helicopter. They're practically begging you not to eat their licorice.

But Red Vines have a stained reputation in the candy world. According to The Odyssey:

Red Vines black licorice was recalled after high amounts of lead was found in it. I don't know about you, but lead does not sound very yummy to me. You know what brand has never had lead in their licorice. TWIZZLERS.

Twizzlers are the more pure choice. These strawberry-twists are with you through every movie, every road trip, and more. Twizzlers are a close friend, while Red Vines are a weird cousin.
