We have to give the always entertaining Shower Thoughts subreddit credit for this debate. It's an interesting proposal. When CEO pay is so excessive and federal officials struggle to mandate a livable wage for workers, shouldn't executive salaries be tied to worker compensation?

#MaximumWage

Don't just listen to us: Here's former Minnesota governor, professional wrestler, and "Predator" star Jesse Ventura explaining why he's for a maximum wage. And he fought a Predator!

Switzerland attempted something similar, proposing a law to cap CEO pay at 12 times the lowest paid employee's salary—but it failed spectacularly in a landslide defeat. If a worker-friendly, socialist paradise like Switzerland recognizes the merit of trusting the free market, then why would we abandon those values?

Millennial whisperer Bernie Sanders has also long advocated for a maximum wage as a way to help temper soaring executive salaries. But the idea was much more mainstream back when America's top marginal tax rate was 90 percent. Maybe his "revolution" could gin up enough support for a maximum wage to bring it to the floor of Congress?

Liberals have floated the idea of a maximum wage before, and free market champions have often countered that the proposal discourages entrepreneurs from starting a small business or taking on greater risks than your average worker. Julian Adorney explains:

Running a successful business is difficult for executives of businesses of all sizes, and for small business executives, failure can be personally devastating. In such cases, high salaries are an appropriate compensation for taking such risks.

Do you really need millions per year to maintain your lifestyle? Wouldn't we all benefit if the profits from any venture were more evenly distributed to everyone?

#MaximumWage

Who NEEDS $300 million dollars a year?? And unless you've cured cancer or solved world hunger, who deserves that much income?

#TrustTheMarket

On the other hand, a maximum wage sounds a lot like Communism. Shouldn't people be able to reap the rewards of legitimate hard work? Capitalism has lifted more people out of poverty than any other economic system. Don't be a hater.

But then, freedom. Would a cap curtail innovation?

#TrustTheMarket

And where does the madness stop.?
