Are siblings the best or the worst? | The Tylt
If you've got a brother or sister, you know there is a special kind of torture only they can bring. But, you might also know the bond between siblings is unlike any other; for some, your sibling is your ride-or-die for life. Some say siblings are the kings and queens of pranks, and if you don't get along with your brother or sister, they can easily make your life miserable. Others argue that although they might be annoying, siblings are one of the best parts of growing up. What do you think?
Are siblings the best or the worst?
For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. The same holds true for siblings. Your sibling could be just as likely to take your own pair of earrings from your room and regift them to you for Christmas as they would be to bring you donuts on your birthday.
Great siblings come down to the luck of the draw. Sometimes they are simultaneously your worst nightmare and your best friend. Other times they're definitely one over the other. Either way, you're stuck with them.
Think of all the legendary duos and families out there. There is hard proof that when they work together, siblings can take over the world.
Serena and Venus Williams prove over and over again that your sibling can be your best teammate and opponent. The Jonas Brothers sang their way into the hearts of two young generations, proving that family bonds never die. The Shib Sibs won an actual Olympic metal as teammates. And Prince George and Princess Charlotte's sheer existence demonstrate the power of cuteness to the world every day.
Famous or not, siblings are one of life's greatest gifts. Your bond with your brother or sister is completely unique to you, and it shouldn't be taken for granted.
Siblings are the worst, no question. Check out this anecdote reported by Buzzfeed:
"My sister and I got in a fight over who should have the last bit of trail mix, it resulted in us screaming/wrestling over the bag on our front lawn. It ended in me locking her out of the house in her underwear. I don't remember who got the granola, but this was two years ago and we're both adults now."
Brothers and sisters' mission on earth is to torment each other. They cut your hair when you're not looking, throw sand in your eyes and blame everything on you. They can even make you dumber.
Even if a joke goes too far or a punch lands too hard, there is a silent pact between every pair of siblings that no one, under any circumstances, tells a parent about what has transpired. No matter how old you get, you never tattle.
The madness is part of the beauty of sibling relationships. Regardless of the brand of torture your brother or sister uses to torment you, you know they will always have your back, and you have theirs.
Siblings aren't everything. Betty White is an only child, and clearly her life is not lacking. If you don't have a sibling, consider yourself lucky!
