Should Twitter ban Donald Trump to prevent nuclear war?
President Trump's Twitter account has taken on new importance after the North Korea's vice foreign minister specifically called it out for "making trouble." In recent days, tense relations with North Korea have grown even worse as the Hermit Kingdom prepares another nuclear test—despite having a U.S. aircraft carrier sitting offshore. According to some reports, the U.S. is prepared to launch a pre-emptive strike to stop the nuclear test.
Nuclear war with North Korea is no exaggeration. The North Korean regime holds several nukes and they say they have the ability to strike the U.S. Any strike would likely cause massive South Korean deaths and could easily devolve into a larger, messier, and possibly global conflict.
Trump's critics worry that a tweet from the president could provoke a chain of reactions that could end in nuclear war. With things so tense, everything that can be done to prevent war should be taken. That means taking one for the team and shutting down Donald Trump's account.
Others say it's not Twitter's place to censor the president. It would be impossible to ban only Trump—there are many politicians who are just as inflammatory, if not more so. Besides, even some of Trump's critics say it's good to know what's on the president's mind. If we're going to nuclear war with North Korea, it won't be Twitter that starts that fight.
