Sauron and Voldemort, the malevolent antagonists of "Lord of the Rings" and "Harry Potter," are two of fantasy's largest looming villains—but who is more evil? Sauron tried to enslave the entire of Middle Earth, whereas Voldemort wanted to exterminate any wizards with non-magical heritage and reign supreme. "Lost" cocreator Damon Lindelof is firmly #TeamVoldemort for five reasons.
1. You can't say his name, which Lindelof says indicates "incredible street cred."
2. He tried to kill a baby (!)
3. He exemplifies straight-up hate in that all he wants to do is kill Harry.
4. He was pretty much born an evil sociopath and is never redeemed.
5. He broke his immortal soul into pieces so that he couldn't be killed! 🐍

But Sauron is a demigod who controls massive armies of orcs and trolls as well as the entire nation of Mordor (which he turns into a hellhole of flame, swamp and darkness). He made rings so powerful they allow him to control men and dwarves—the elves can resist him, but even they can't defeat him. His very presence poisons the earth! That's pretty evil.🌋
But Voldemort killed his parents and Harry's parents. JK Rowling described him as a sadist with no conscience, a psychopath and even a racist! That's pretty evil. At least Sauron wasn't a bigot.🐍

But Time magazine named Sauron the number one most nefarious wizard. His drive to dominate an entire planet and all the creatures on it perhaps shows his evil dreams are bigger than Voldemort's. 🌋
