How do you freshen your breath: with mints or gum?

For all its wonders, the human body is pretty disgusting. If not properly taken care of, your anatomy can fight back in ways so vicious, you’ll start to notice there’s considerably more space around you during your morning commute when compared to others. One form of hygiene in rebellion is bad breath, a grievance which has ruined many a make-out session. Some people avoid such embarrassment by obsessively popping mints into their mouths; others stick with old-fashioned gum. Which do you do choose?

The medical term for bad breath is “halitosis,” which sounds kind of nice, but in reality is quite rancid. Have you ever been in a situation where you’re talking to someone whose breath stinks, trying to remain polite and conscious at the same time? It's rough, man.

You know how mortifying it is to be talking to someone, only to realize they’re slowly shuffling away because you decided to let that garlic bread sit and stew in your stomach without taking refreshing measures? Very, is the answer to that.

Breath mints are a fresh breath Godsend. Despite their size, they deliver quite the punch, beating that awful halitosis into submission. They’re less obnoxious than gum by a mile. You won’t feel like a cow chewing cud, and people won’t glare at you for making disgusting squishy noises. Just remember to share, please.

Mints last for, like, two seconds. Gum is forever (actually, though). Some parents caution you about the perils of chewing gum, like how (according to my dad) swallowing gum can apparently cause it to wrap around your appendix and cause appendicitis (this isn't true). But the refreshing treat has been a long-lasting remedy to smelly mouth odors. Just pop it right in after that A.M. coffee.

There’s a whole sensation attached to the gum-chewing experience. Your mouth feels heavy and burdened with an unclean scent; you slowly unwrap the foil, aching with anticipation; you place that flat, ridged piece of gum on your tongue; then, finally, you chew your way to freshness. Ahh

Chewing gum is a symbol of a true badass, one that’s courteous by ensuring others only suffer from their aura of cool, not their breath. Chew on, soldier, chew on.
